WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

You may qualify for an ultrasound when you’ve received a positive pregnancy test completed at our clinic. A Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) or an appropriately trained Registered Nurse (RN) performs limited obstetrical ultrasound exams at our clinics.

An ultrasound can help determine how far along you are and if your pregnancy is viable. It can also sometimes detect an ectopic pregnancy, which can be life-threatening if undetected. An abortion will not resolve this complication.

Ultrasound appointments must be scheduled by phone. Before receiving an ultrasound, each patient will be assessed by a medial staff member to determine eligibility. An ultrasound may not be performed on the same day as your initial appointment.

ULTRASOUNDS AND ABORTION IN FLORIDA

Florida law requires an ultrasound exam before having an abortion procedure. The fetus’ gestational age impacts the cost and type of abortion procedures you may be eligible for, so it is vital to know how advanced your pregnancy is. Many women do not remember their last menstrual period’s exact date, so an ultrasound is the best way to determine gestational age, especially early in the pregnancy.
