Abortion

Your first step in any bodily crisis is a medical consultation and diagnosis. A Woman’s Place Medical Clinic offers free diagnostic services to help you through your abortion and pregnancy decisions. Before deciding the outcome of your pregnancy, it is important to answer these questions:

Is my pregnancy viable?

A positive pregnancy test does not mean that it will continue. 10-25% of all clinically recognized pregnancies will end in miscarriage. (Click here for reference: American Pregnancy Association)

How far along am I?

Gestational age determines the type and cost of abortion procedures that you could be eligible for. Only an ultrasound exam can accurately determine gestational age.

It's important to know the answers to these questions, so that you can make an informed decision. There are different types of abortion, based on the stage of the pregnancy. Although A Woman's Place Medical Clinic does not perform abortions, we can provide a medical care plan that supports your specific needs. We offer free ultrasounds to confirm the gestational age of your pregnancy and can answer many important questions you may have.

Abortion Procedures

Finding out how far along you are will determine which abortion procedure is available to you and how much it will cost. An ultrasound is the most accurate way to find out how far along you are.

Types of abortion procedures include:

  • Methotrexate (MTX)
  • Abortion Pill / Mifeprex / Mifepristone (RU-486)
  • Suction Dilation and Curettage (Suction D&C)
  • Dilation and Evacuation (D&E)
  • Dilation and Extraction (D&X) / Intact Dilation and Extraction (IDE)
  • Intra-cardiac Injection
  • Prostaglandin

During your visit, you will find out more information on the different abortion procedures and what options are available to you. We can also provide accurate information about Emergency Contraception (frequently referred to or known as the Morning After Pill) within 72 hours of intercourse.

What are the risks?

Multiple risks accompany any abortion procedure. It is important that you get all your facts and you are well educated about your choice.  Although A Woman’s Place Medical Clinic does not perform abortions, we can provide a medical care plan that supports your specific needs. We provide accurate information and support, as we have no financial gain from your decision.

Health Considerations

If you are considering an abortion, you should receive testing to ensure you do not have an undiagnosed STD/STI, which would put you at a higher risk of developing Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID). PID can lead to serious complications including infertility, ectopic pregnancy, abscess formation, and chronic pelvic pain.

Florida law also requires an ultrasound exam prior to having an abortion procedure.

We see hundreds of clients each year. It is our experience that a high percentage of them describe symptoms such as depression, guilt, regret, increased drug and alcohol abuse. These side-effects may arise days, months, or even years later.
